Galinfenner clears his throat Galinfenner says, "well, I think we should get started" Rick smiles, "No snitching -- you can have all ya want -- I Think you'll need it" Esperanza whispers to Galin, "Am I supposed to get on the stool?" "Sure Espy, hop on up", says Galinfenner. Galinfenner grins "Welcome to Meet and Greet", says Galinfenner. Wolfyn pretends to do something useful and important. Her real function is the wind machine under Galin. Galinfenner looks worried Galinfenner glances at Uni Gwarrior claps. Esperanza slides onto the stool Fancy eyes a pigeon perched on the stool, and wonders if it's a stool pigeon. "Tonight our guest is Esperanza", says Galinfenner. Rchubb claps Jazir applauds Wolfyn cheers and applauds! Esperanza makes sure nothing improper is exposed and adjusts her notes Uniquette applauds Redspice applauds Gypsy whistles through her fingers. Fancy applauds for Esperanza. "So, to start off with I'll ask the first question I always ask our guests.", says Galinfenner. Embrionic applauds. Galinfenner asks, "How did you find Federation?" Esperanza focuses Esperanza says, "Well, I was actually on assignment" Galinfenner nods Esperanza says, "Working for a company that was checking out on line games" "on assignment?", asks Galinfenner. Galinfenner smiles, "ahh" Esperanza says, "And I was their 'spy' sort of" Galinfenner winks and says, "So you were assigned to Federation? That's a first I think" "Fed was pretty new to AOL at the time", says Esperanza. "And I was assigned to the AOL beat", says Esperanza. Galinfenner nods and grins "So anyway, I got into the game, liked it, stayed even after the assignment was completed.", says Esperanza. Esperanza says, "Never very long at a time though" "So, back in 95 or 96?", asks Galinfenner. "I've had a bizillion characters. Esperanza is my oldest one ever and she's dd'd twice since last March", says Esperanza. Esperanza nods Esperanza says, "I'm thinking early 1995" "Why did you keep leaving?", asks Galinfenner. Rick starts humming the "Mission Impossible" theme Fancy seems to remember June 21, 1995 as the start of Federation on AOL. Esperanza says, "Oh my. Failed romances, real life, got involved in other stuff" Galinfenner smiles, "That was when we came out of Beta Fancy" "the usual huh?", asks Galinfenner. Esperanza was in Beta Fed for a time Galinfenner asks, "Who do you remember helping you get started?" "There were so many", says Esperanza. Esperanza remembers you Galin Galinfenner grins "There was Fireimp", says Esperanza. "And a lot of the greeters were so neat", says Esperanza. Galinfenner winks and says, "Actually, Galin wasn't around until late 96" Galinfenner nods Esperanza nods "But that was a new start", smiles Esperanza. Racingnut remembers fireimp "I was taken in early into the organization Soulquestr talked about", says Esperanza. Galinfenner nods Uniquette shudders when she remembers Fireimp "I was a gun moll for the Godfather for awhile", says Esperanza. Wyldcat chuckles "Really? What was your name then?", asks Galinfenner. "I'm thinking in that character I was Maryjane", says Esperanza. Galinfenner nods Esperanza has forgotten half her characters Galinfenner asks, "Do you remember any others?" Esperanza says, "I also had an alt Rynna who has surfaced now and then" Galinfenner says, "I have seen that name." Esperanza says, "Texasbil was very helpful. He inducted me into the family" Galinfenner asks, "you mentioned failed relationships. Can you rmember some of those you were involved with?" Esperanza says, "Back then? No" Esperanza says, "Well some" "Ok, who do you remember?", asks Galinfenner. Rchubb grabs a notpad "My very first on line romance was with a Starlocke I think", says Esperanza. Galinfenner nods "It didn't last long", says Esperanza. "In later years they got a bit more involved", says Esperanza. Esperanza says, "Rynna never got involved" "She was a nun?", asks Galinfenner. Galinfenner has given Esperanza a passionate tickle! Esperanza says, "Willianna was married once, to Ryno, and fed engaged to Jamel" Galinfenner nods Esperanza smiles, "not at the same time though" "Willianna?", asks Wolfyn. Embrionic chuckles the name. Rchubb vividly remembers willianna Wolfyn chokes. "Willianna was one of my more um flamboyant characters?", asks Esperanza. Galinfenner says, "so you've changed characters several times." "many times", says Esperanza. Sirglec thinks Espy has had a few of those. ;) Wolfyn is going to stop coming to these, there's too many surprises! Esperanza smiles, "Like I said, Esperanza is my oldest ever and she's dd'd twice in a year" Galinfenner asks, "So you've been here a year in this form?" Embrionic DD'ed twice in.. 4 months. :/ "yes, and it has been a great year actually", says Esperanza. Galinfenner nods "who do you hang around with mostly?", asks Galinfenner. Rchubb holds up his fed merit badge of non-dders and smirks Esperanza says, "When I came back this time I knew almost nobody" Galinfenner nods "Blirish took me under her wing, helped me get re-established", says Esperanza. "It'll get ya, Rc ;))", says Skeletor. Blirish smiles at Esperanza "Did you know Blirish from another life?", asks Galinfenner. Esperanza says, "And the POs of the tri-duchy empire made me a part of the family" Embrionic chuckles at no-face's double chin Esperanza says, "No I don't think so" Esperanza eyes Blirish Galinfenner asks, "What is the Tri-Duchy empire?" Esperanza says, "I'm pretty sure we had not really met at least seriously before" Blirish grins Esperanza says, "Aries, Gentletouch, Voyage" "That's where I grew up this time", says Esperanza. Galinfenner nods Gypsy cheers Aries then notices she is out of her seat and sits down quickly Vue thinks he may have seen this all before! Esperanza says, "I had one character, Foxfyre, that hung out on Serenity some." "That was years ago though", says Esperanza. "Why do you think Fed keeps people here? WHy do they come back?", asks Galinfenner. Gwarrior didn't know Serenity had been around that long. Esperanza says, "In the old days, it was a wonder of multi-layer classes, cultures, and socio-economic groupings" Esperanza says, "It was unlike any other game anywhere...well, it still is" Galinfenner nods Racingnut nods in agreement "It wasn't Fed's fault that AOL went flat rate though, and that changed things drastically", says Esperanza. Rchubb watches a flash back begin Galinfenner says, "Yeah you have no idea." Galinfenner laughs Esperanza says, "All of a sudden people could afford three, four, five alts...as many screen names as AOL could allow" Esperanza says, "The next big thing was probably Zmud" Galinfenner nods Galinfenner says, "That would be after the move to the web" Esperanza says, "And by the time Fed went to the web and was ree, people were learning how to use it" Esperanza says, "ree = free" "So for several months none of us paid to play at all", says Esperanza. Galinfenner nods "By the time things settled out, there was a glut of groats...inflation was terrible", says Esperanza. "dang i shoulda stuck around lol", says Racingnut. "And nobody needed poor people anymore", says Esperanza. "Again none of this was Fed's fault", says Esperanza. "it was just the way it happened", says Esperanza. Galinfenner nods Esperanza says, "So now we have a much different game" Galinfenner says, "The game changes every so often" Esperanza nods Esperanza says, "it does" Esperanza says, "Those of us who have been able to adapt to the present Fed are here and more are coming" Esperanza says, "Those who couldn't give up the old Fed left" "so, why do you think people stay here now?", asks Galinfenner. "Because it's still like no other place on the internet", says Esperanza. Galinfenner nods Esperanza says, "You can still be somebody here that you can't be in real life, so it's role playing" Racingnut had kind of a culture shock when he ventured into the new fed Esperanza says, "There is the creative aspect of writing worlds" Esperanza says, "There is friendship and....love" Galinfenner grins Esperanza says, "And the events are becoming increasingly important" Wolfyn smiles, "Well said." Galinfenner asks, "What do you think would be a good change for Fed?" "Well....you mean realistically or if it could be as I would want it?", asks Esperanza. "Maybe both?", smiles Galinfenner. Esperanza grins Heatherjn grins. Wyldcat smiles "Both Bella and Hazed have told me about the programming problems with the current game....that radical new programming is not advisable", says Esperanza. Galinfenner nods Esperanza says, "But I wish there were a few things they could do" Esperanza says, "I wish the snark would go back in...and be a promotion requirement again" Gypsy nods her head in agreement Galinfenner smiles, "That was fun. Created bonds" "I wish it was a lot more difficult to promote from rank to rank....", says Esperanza. Rchubb would kill for fed's source code (well the ability to tinker with it anyway) Fancy suspects few around now know how to do the Snark puzzle. "Maybe make the promotion requirements a lot tougher so people would have to stay at low levels and learn the game", says Esperanza. Gwarrior says, "especially the PO ranks" Racingnut never had to do it Rchubb was deprived of the snark puzz Dooeee thinks thats the point ;) Galinfenner nods "Make it harder to promote planets...have to do something besides just builds to promote one", says Esperanza. Rchubb says, "The day I was gonna doit they removed it" "Do you think that would make it more enjoyable for new players?", asks Galinfenner. Gwarrior says, "hear hear" Esperanza says, "Speaking as a duchess with a growing...well sometimes growing...duchy, I HATE asking Hazed to ban somebody causing problems" Esperanza says, "I would like to have the means to embargo a duchy and make it stick" "oh earning money to do agri builds isnt tough enough?", says Racingnut with a wink. Galinfenner nods "On a more personal level, I would like to see a two-person private location on each planet", says Esperanza. "No more than two people could get into it", smiles Esperanza. Fancy says, "Apparently there used to be a minimum amount of Tourist Time a planet had to get to promote." Heatherjn giggles. Insomnius grins and winks "oh I wonder why.", says Embrionic with a wink. Esperanza smiles, "That might slow down the rush to duke" Esperanza coughs for no apparent reason "Unspyable location ?", asks Galinfenner. Heatherjn laughs. Esperanza grins at Wolfyn :) Galinfenner imagines everyone huddled in spy proof rooms and not coming out "Exactly", says Esperanza. Galinfenner asks, "anything else?" "In fact I think I remember Hazed saying they experimented with that once and it did have a detrimental effect", says Esperanza. Embrionic would park in a two-person room. ;) "we have them -- called IM's", says Rick. Esperanza says, "Yeah but IMs pull people out of the game" "That's the other thing I wish could happen", says Esperanza. Rick says, "so would no spy rooms" Esperanza says, "Nobody can macro to stay in the game...if you aren't occupying the character, it can't be here" "Yes, there was a no spy room way back on aries", says Galinfenner. Esperanza says, "In no spy rooms you can still use the comms, tb, be aware of what's going on" "But it is just a thought", says Esperanza. Esperanza says, "Many people duke simply to be more spy proof" Galinfenner nods Esperanza says, "it would be a way to make that unnecessary" Jazir likes that perk ;) Heatherjn nods. Fancy likes the perk, too. Esperanza would like spaceships that could carry 2 or more people Racingnut would love that Galinfenner says, "Give your buddy a lift? LOL" Rchubb doesn't belive dukes or duchesses are spy proof without proper equipment;) Esperanza says, "Exactly" Fancy says, "Others wouldn't be able to just pop in on you." Penguin pictures him and his Mrs in the backseat of his spaceship :) Racingnut has a screen thats absolutely useless Heatherjn checks her equipment and grins. Uniquette ponders making money as a taxi ship Galinfenner asks, "What do you think that would do? Being able to carry more than one?" Esperanza asks, "But wouldn't it be more romantic to go off on a dinner date in your date's spaceship?" Wolfyn exclaims, "Not the way he drives!" Esperanza says, "I would like to say something good about the present fed though" Embrionic knows what he would ask for. ;) Sirglec looks at the woman that refuses to drive when he's around. Galinfenner asks, "what's that?" "First, I mourn with everybody else the aspects of the game that have been lost. but we're all here because of what we have now. And I wish we would celebrate that more.", says Esperanza. Galinfenner nods Esperanza says, "Second, I almost left Fed not too long ago....the game had turned ugly...factions against factions...people saying really hateful things about others...urging people to make trouble" "Some..maybe all of the trouble makers have left...and there were more than one.", says Esperanza. Galinfenner nods "It's a kinder gentler Fed.....people are having fun again", says Esperanza. "you must be mistaken Esper.... I'm still here", says Rchubb with a wink. Esperanza grins at Rchubb Rchubb grins evily Racingnut loves causing a little good natured trouble Galinfenner hushes the crowd Wolfyn winks and says, "Good natured being the keyword." "Anything else?", asks Galinfenner. "There's still squabbling on comms...we all still debate and argue and go at it...but the cruelness, the meanness isn't here any more", says Esperanza. Galinfenner nods Wolfyn nods too. "I have so much appreciated all you dataspace hosts coming back to the game", says Esperanza. Rchubb nods commentless Esperanza says, "You tease us...get outrageous...we know you're there...but you let us have fun and you have fun with us and you make it fun" Galinfenner grins Galinfenner winks and says, "Well, that's Uni's job. I just get to host this" Esperanza grins Uniquette makes a note to change her attitude and become mean again Galinfenner chuckles "Uni tries to be mean....I do my best to help her keep her reputation", smiles Esperanza. Esperanza says, "Mac's Fed Survivor was a lot of fun" Esperanza says, "I love Gypsy's dating game" Racingnut says, "guts & glory!...whoops" Gypsy blushes Galinfenner grins "Those are the player events", says Esperanza. "We need more of them", says Esperanza. "For the regular hosted events...all of them are terrific", says Esperanza. "IT's a ton of work to do something like that. I know. Esperanza says, "And forgot about it when she went hauling all over Fed the next day" "What was the description?", asks Galinfenner. Heatherjn giggles. Esperanza checks her list "I have dated Katspurfor, Thejunior, Soulquestr, Dymonddave, Raphael.....", says Esperanza. "All are dear friends but just had dinner and a few drinks", says Esperanza. Galinfenner nods Rick laughs Rick stiffles the laughs and looks at the ceiling Esperanza says, "Was a bit more involved with the Duke of Junta and the Duke of Hauge...both special people...both I love dearly" Galinfenner chuckles Galinfenner smiles, "Paladin and Rasal." Esperanza says, "But Insomnius is the one I will marry." Insomnius thinks Espy saved the best for last Heatherjn smiles. "espy fed has been around almost 14 years what in your opinion is the main reason it has lasted so long when many muds have not?", asks Racingnut. Esperanza says, "Because it is unique" Esperanza says, "Because it is a place where you can be alone or together in a group with equal success" Esperanza says, "It sparks our wildest fantasies and yet we aren't tied to a lot of silly IC and OOC rules" Esperanza says, "So you can pretty much be whoever you want to be here" Esperanza says, "And let's hear it for Villains" Heatherjn laughs. Galinfenner grins "Fed is like an interactive novel that we are writing as we play it", says Esperanza. Redspice chuckles... Esperanza says, "With no villains there is no tension" Galinfenner nods Blirish gets tense Racingnut nods his agreement Esperanza says, "Now I don't mean ugly villains that hurt people" "Nothing gets you going like having someone to hate", says Galinfenner with a wink.
