Kes smiles and waves.

Gwarrior says, "after only 3 months.."

Fancy says, "She'll be telling us about her life in Fed tonight, and answering questions."

Kes smiles, "Better late than never."

Paladin says, "what a long strange trip it's been"

Fancy says, "So without further ado, let's hear it for tonight's guest."

Ferreri claps

Paladin applauds and whistles!

Fancy applauds Kes as she takes the hot seat.

Gwarrior appluads.

Kes sits up on the bar

Racingnut applauds

Kes orders a Midori Sour.

Fancy says, "So Kes, how about starting off by telling us how you found Fed."

Kes says, "Ok, well I was about 14 or so and my parents had finally caught up with the world and obtained AOL"

Kes says, "Being a gigantic Babylon 5 fan, I spent a lot of time in the B5 chat and the friends that I made there played Fed"

Paladin asks, "like who?"

Racingnut remembers the old B5 roleplaying

Kes says, "Coitster was my best friend"

Kes says, "And also Kinzin"

Racingnut misses coitsters old planet

Kes says, "Unfortunately Fed left AOL when they started charging for the games"

Fancy nods, remembering that being in 1997.

Ferreri says, "I joined in AOL times"

Kes says, "And as long as it was free I played, but of course I couldn't pay for it on my own"

Kes says, "When I was a freshman in college I looked for it but I wasnt able ot find it then"

Kes says, "Then earlier this year I for some reason decided to look again, and I found it"

Fancy smiles.

Bourbon says, "yeah, those 500 mins didn't last long"

Paladin says, "lol... I day"

Kes says, "I think our first AOL bill was over $400"

Fancy whistles.

Racingnut remembers playing Air Warrior on aol way back when..what fun that was

Kes says, "Then we got the unlimited access"

Kes says, "I was very attached to Fed, I think I cried the day I couldn't play anymore"

Fancy says, "So it sounds as if you started playing Fed in 1995 or 1996."

Ferreri says, "but the game was gone."

Kes says, "Yes that sounds about right"

Paladin says, "'mmm..sounds like 97"

Racingnut says, "i think 97 is when aol went unlimited"

Fancy asks, "It looks like you have at least one relationship in Fed. Did you have any others prior?"

Kes says, "I've only had one official one"

Kes smiles at Paladin.

Paladin grins

Kes says, "When I first played, I was hyper sensitive about concealing my age"

Fancy grins.

Kes says, "I know the people I hung out with were in their twenties"

Kes says, "and they assumed I was too"

Ferreri wishes some other players felt the same way

Paladin winks, "or, so you think ;)"

Ferreri says, "some were 11 and 12."

Kes says, "Well I'm pretty sure. Coitster was the only one who knew how old I was and he was shocked"

Paladin nods

Racingnut says, "coitster was quite a character in fed"

Kes nods

Kes drawls, "He did find out my age when he made a pass at me..."

Fancy chuckles.

Kes says, "But there was never a 'relationship'"

Kes says, "Just flirtation"

Kes says, "And yes, he was a great friend"

Fancy asks, "Do you have some highlights from your earlier Fed life you care to share?"

Kes says, "I do remember some of the planets"

Fancy asks, "Ah, which ones?"

Kes says, "One of my friends had an elaborate tropical planet but for the life of me I can't remember the name"

Kes says, "I remember it took me two months to find the GM"

Fancy says, "I remember Leo being a planet green and thick with vegetation."

Ferreri says, "there were some nice planets."

Kes says, "I spent so much more time socializing than actually promoting"

Paladin says, "yeah... a huge problem for everyone"

Kes says, "I remember huge TTTT parties"

Fancy nods, remembering some of them, too.

Kes says, "And CDs really was the social center of the universe"

Ferreri says, "those were fun"

Racingnut says, "with cantina not far behind"

Kes nods

Kes says, "I most wanted to be a PO"

Kes says, "I spent quite a long time designing a planet on graph paper"

Kes says, "But unfortunately I never got that far on AOL"

Kes says, "I do remember the first day I was able to leave the solar system"

Kes says, "I changed to channel 8 or so"

Ferreri says, "that was scary for me."

Kes says, "And got royally chewed out by all the higher ranked people on that channel for not belonging there"

Racingnut nods remembering

Bourbon says, "lol, those were the days"

Fancy says, "That must have been intimidating."

Ferreri says, "we had rules"

Paladin says, "oh jeez"

Racingnut says, "yep every rank had their channel"

Bourbon says, "and forget about pc's"

Kes says, "At first it was but since I had simming friends who were high ranks, they introduced me"

Kes says, "I was a very social butterfly"

Bourbon asks, "so what duchy's were you in?"

Fancy asks, "How far did you advance while Fed was on AOL?"

Kes says, "I'm pretty sure JP was my highest rank on AOL"

Kes says, "Maybe GM"

Kes says, "But I spent a lot of time as an Adventurer and a Merchant"

Ferreri asks, "Did you ever go to the parties in Harem, or on Bourbon?"

Kes says, "My name was Denalia on AOL too, not Kes"

Kes says, "Yes I remember Bourbon"

Bourbon says, "NO, this is not the same one"

Kes grins

Paladin asks, "What was it like coming back so many years later?"

Fancy asks, "Any other players you remember from your early days, or players who helped you?"

Kes says, "I wasn't sure what to expect coming back. I had hoped I would know more of the people who were playing"

Kes says, "I remember Haulnmouse"

Bourbon says, "you probably do, but with new names"

Kes says, "Yeah. The one problem is I remember talking and being in places with people but I can't remember their Fed names, just AOL screennames"

Ferreri winks, "I don't have a new name... figured it would confuse people ;)"

Kes says, "Which has been frustrating for me"

Kes says, "I couldn't remember whether this was my name in Fed or Denalia. I guessed wrong"

Racingnut says, "i didnt much like my aol name after a time but i love racing so hence my screenname now"

Fancy asks, "How do you like the new Fed here?"

Kes says, "I think FedII will be great when the whole thing is complete."

Kes says, "The whole concept of the game has always captivated me"

Ferreri winks, "I changed mine, I was ferreri1 in aol, now just ferreri ;)"

Kes says, "The only thing I would add would be more players"

Ferreri says, "please do"

Kes says, "If only I could"

Kes says, "There are some things I miss from Classic Fed"

Kes says, "Like being able to paint my spaceship"

Bourbon asks, "what is that?"

Ferreri says, "I miss that too"

Kes says, "Moods that dont reset at logout"

Fancy asks, "I believe you have a current relationship going with Paladin. Care to tell everyone how you met?"

Ferreri says, "a kitchen in your ship and a crago bay you can wander through"

Kes says, "If I could add something, I would add the ability to name the ships so instead of passing "Fancy's spaceship" I would pass the "Tip-Top Cat" or something"

Kes sighs, "That's an ... interesting story

Fancy says, "Maybe Bella will put that in, like name ship."

Ferreri says, "ships can do things we don't mes with yet."

Kes says, "Paladin came to a party on my planet Harmony in Classic Fed"

Kes says, "We were having a party because there was a certain person causing a ruckus"

Bourbon asks, "who was that?"

Paladin says, "we have parties for odd reasons"

Kes says, "Basically making a scene and making my life uncomfortable"

Kes says, "So it was a support and whine party"

Ferreri says, "I hate whine parties, wine ones are more fun"

Kes says, "It was a person who...had trouble staying alive after that...they still play so I don't want to be too bitter about something that we resolved now."

Kes says, "Even today I'm not really sure what all happened"

Kes says, "But basically, a lot of people came to me on Harmonies to talk about it and Paladin was one of them"

Bourbon passes glasses of P-Noir and cheese across the room

Ferreri nibbles the cheese

Kes says, "Paladin and I have quite a lot in common, so it was an immediate friendship"

Kes sips the wine.

Ferreri dabs her eyes and says, "I love a story like this"

Paladin smiles

Kes winks, "And we wanted to get into the hall of fame, so we got married ;)"

Paladin says, "Smok had alot to do with it... he pushed us together"

Fancy smiles at the story.

Fancy asks, "OK, I think we'll open up the floor to questions from the audience. Anyone else have a question for Kes?"

Ferreri asks, "Are you going to stay here in Fed II Kes?"

Kes says, "There are a lot of things keepign me here. I'm busy with graduate school so I'm not around as much as I'd like but yes, I'll be here"

Racingnut says, "have you heard anything from coitster lately? i havent talked with him in years"

Kes says, "Actually the last time I talked to him was about...5 years ago"

Ferreri says, "Fancy or Profacy could probably help you out with the graduate thing."

Kes says, "I do know he had gotten married and moved south"

Kes smiles, "Its just time consuming :)"

Bourbon has left.

Kes says, "I believe in FedII though so I want to see it go forward. That's why I write for the Star"

Bourbon has just arrived.

Bourbon smiles, "needed a smoke break :)"

Ferreri asks, "It'll be fun if we can get it to take, an ideas?"

Ferreri winks, "you didn't need it Bourbon, you took it ;)"

Kes says, "Oh I don't know. I think the biggest thing is just trying to get people to play"

Racingnut says, "yeah thats the biggest thing..many old veterans want nothing to do with it now"

Fancy asks, "Other questions for Kes from the audience?"

Kes says, "Its hard when there are all sorts of mmorpgs that arent text based"

Kes says, "People dont necessarily feel its worthwhile"

Bourbon says, "fed is like reading a book, the mental imagination comes into play"

Kes nods

Racingnut says, "is it possible fed has seen its day and its ending now? i mean 17 years isnt a bad run at all especially for a MUD"

Racingnut says, "most text MUD's dont last 2 years much less almost 20"

Kes says, "I think there is still a place for Fed"

Kes says, "I think that it reaches a different audience"

Kes says, "And we just need to find that audience"

Ferreri says, "i'm not sure, my older brother is a mentor on a bbs about games and is intriqued, says he'll be here in the next day or two."

Bourbon says, "nods"

Racingnut says, "i think maybe what we need is similar to aol days..writeups about the new Fed II"

Kes says, "I've lost touch with a lot of the people I used to know online and I'm convinced that there are a lot of people who would play if they knew it was still around"

Fancy says, "And I believe an advertising campaign to get the word out may be underway."

Racingnut says, "i was under the impression that there was no money for advertising"

Ferreri says, "but, I keep trying and I'm not a young good looking college student like you Kes.. keep trying."

Paladin says, "hehe"

Kes laughs, "Well...there's a limit to everything including what I can do

Kes says, "I have tried to get friends to play"

Fancy asks, "Any other questions for Kes?"

Ferreri says, "Thank you Kes, I know how hard this can be"

Kes smiles

Kes says, "Oh its my pleasure"

Fancy asks, "If not, then does Kes have any final words tonight?"

Bourbon smiles, "Kes, have fun, and stay around for the new game:)"

Kes smiles, "Just enjoy the game and always feel free to say hi :)"

Ferreri says, "we may get shootem up someday, but that's not what it's about"

Kes says, "Its a social game"

Bourbon says, "nods"

Kes says, "So stop to chat"

Racingnut says, "i would hope so..id love to see fighting competitions return to fed again"

Paladin says, "it's about making groats"

Paladin grins

Ferreri smiles, "thank you Kes :)"

Bourbon says, "yeah, that too"

Fancy says, "OK, thank you for being our guest tonight, Kes. I'm sure you're glad to have finally gotten your Meet & Greet. And thanks to everyone else for coming here tonight."

Kes winks, "Just like a man to be all about the money ;)"

Racingnut says, "problem is especially at trader there aint much socializing to be done..we're always running around checking prices"
