Jessecka says, "thanks for joining us today Filbert, sure sit down"

Filbert flops down

Jessecka doesn't need duct tape for most of her guests ;)

Filbert promises to behave, winking

Jessecka asks, "Ok Filbert, let's start with your past fed life.....how did you discover Fed?"

Filbert says, "back in 1991 on the uk Online system"

Filbert says, "about the time GEnie started"

Jessecka asks, "that's right....you are not in the states, are you?"

Filbert says, "no, I lived in London then"

Jessecka nods.

Filbert says, "now I live 70 miles from London in Kent"

Jessecka asks, "so you've been playing since GEnie?"

Filbert says, "yes I played fed on GEnie too, it wasnt easy those days getting through"

Jessecka smiles.

Jessecka asks, "what was it like playing Fed back then?"

Filbert says, "1200/75 modems, telnet and sprintnet"

Filbert says, "in uk there were not many players, usually 10 max sometimes 20"

Filbert says, "but everyone were friends, usually"

Filbert says, "those were great times"

Jessecka smiles.

Filbert says, "the highest rank when I started was journeyperson"

Jessecka asks, "so you moved with Fed?"

Filbert says, "yes but when fed went to web I stopped playing for a while"

Filbert says, "so I never played classic fed"

Jessecka asks, "how did you find Fed2 then?"

Filbert says, "I typed fed in the google window one day and lo and behold ibgames popped up"

Jessecka grins.

Filbert takes a swig of his drink

Filbert splutters

Jessecka giggles.

Jessecka says, "so you got sucked back into Fed"

Jessecka asks, "how far along was Fed2 when you started?"

Filbert says, "yes, it was strange at first, but I soon got hooked again"

Filbert says, "I think the maximum rank was merchant, perhaps trader"

Filbert says, "yes I think it was trader"

Filbert cringes at the thought of trading futures

Jessecka laughs.

Catspaws hisses and dives under a table

Jessecka cringes at Filbert trading futures too.

Icey dreads the thought of futures..

Filbert chucks a few certificates in the spitoon

Jessecka asks, "so, how did you come up with this Allshare thing that we see on the board, and just what is it all about?"

Filbert drawls, "I thought that it might be interesting to see how the share prices changed over time......"

Jessecka nods.

Filbert says, "and I already had sorted a database to record all prices so it seemed a good idea."

Catspaws thinks Filbert has too much time on his hands...

Jessecka giggles.

Filbert says, "Until share splits happened it was very useful, you could see the investment a new indy would have to make to earn a living"

Filbert says, "I dont work much these days, being semi retired"

Jessecka asks, "so how bad did the share splits affect the data?"

Filbert says, "it made the share prices rock about for awhile, it is not so bad now, but at first wow did those prices change"

Jessecka grins.

Filbert says, "there is one problem, when I started there was 70 companies and the capture of data took a couple of mins, with 111 now it takes 3-4 mins or more"

Jessecka winks, "that's a lot of scrolling ;)"

Filbert says, "yes, wish bella would impliment a di share price command"

Jessecka winks, "feedback Filbert, feedback ;)"

Jessecka has given Filbert an affectionate tickle.

Filbert says, "lost count of the times I have type 'feedback'"

Jessecka laughs.

Filbert says, "anyway I enjoy creating the scripts and doing the charts"

Jessecka nods.

Filbert says, "Hopefully it expands feds scope for players"

Jessecka asks, "is the enjoyment of writing scripts and things what lead you to create the FedPlanetSim program?"

Filbert says, "more useless data"

Filbert says, "In a way yes, I looked over Carl's shoulder when he wrote Binary and thought we will need a program to test out planets with"

Jessecka asks, "how difficult was it to create something like that?"

Filbert says, "fedplanetsim can do much more than it can presently, once events go in it will be awesome"

Filbert says, "I once wrote an online game so I had done something like that before, plus I had all the fed workbench manuals which helped alot"

Perseus exclaims, "Ohhh... sounds like what Plantking did in old GEnie Fed with his program!"

Filbert says, "I have to confess I am not a very programmer, but it seems to work ok"

Jessecka says, "ok, I think I'll open the floor for questions now. If you would like to ask Filbert a question, please raise your hand."

Caesar raise hand

Jessecka asks, "Caesar?"

Caesar asks, "what do you mean event and when will that happen?"

Filbert takes another sip of his drink

Jessecka smiles.

Filbert asks, "have you ridden the rides on Binary Caesar?"

Caesar says, "yes"

Icey has missed the rides on binary ;)

Filbert says, "they were created with events, all the things that happen to you in sol, are events written by Hazed, Bella or other architects"

Jessecka says, "events come later in the ranks, after you promote up through the planet owner ranks"

Filbert says, "so when players can write events on their planets they will need to test them"

Prometheus raises hand

Jessecka asks, "Prom?"

Filbert says, "so fedplanet sim will be able to do that too"

Prometheus asks, "how does all shares adjust for splits?"

Prometheus asks, "i mean that when a company in the dow splits, the dow automatically adjusts for the split, does all shares do that?"

Filbert drawls, "the share price is calculated as before, the average of all prices......"

Prometheus says, "alright"

Jessecka asks, "ok, next question?"

Filbert says, "but the index on the allshare blog page is adjusted so to the equivalent if each company had 10000 shares"

Prometheus says, "so what if a financier dd's and has 9000"

Prometheus asks, "are they in the all shares?"

Filbert says, "there will be no accounts for a dd player so they dont get included"

Jessecka says, "the data comes from the accounts of all the companies in the game, if someone DDs, they are no longer in the count, I would think"

Gwarrior says, "its impossible for a company to have 9000 shares anyways"

Prometheus says, "i had 9000 shares available when satinpcat dd'd"

Filbert says, "it is now, but there were a few with only 9000"

Gwarrior says, "oh thats right.. there was some glitch that caused that.."

Filbert says, "the allshare index takes that into account"

Prometheus says, "okay"

Filbert says, "Perhaps I need to write another allshare article"

Jessecka smiles.

Jessecka asks, "ok, next question?"

Caesar raises hand

Jessecka asks, "yes Caesar?"

Caesar asks, "have you every applied your software to the real stock market?"

Gwarrior can't help but burst out laughing at that question.

Stirling nudges Gwarrior.

Filbert says, "no, someones already done it....dow jones and ftse"

Gwarrior says, "and S%P"

Gwarrior says, "er.. S&P"

Robius raises his hand

Jessecka asks, "ok, next?"

Filbert says, "anyway I once lost loads of money on shares"

Jessecka says, "oh really"

Jessecka asks, "want to tell us more?"

Jessecka grins.

Filbert says, "bought them too late and sold them too early"

Jessecka nods.

Jessecka says, "that will do it"

Jessecka asks, "got a question Robius?"

Robius asks, "Filbert, I noticed you planet is golf themed? Are you a big golf nut?"

Stirling says, "or a nut who plays golf :P"

Jessecka giggles.

Filbert drawls, "I used to play golf but cant now due to a back problem...."

Filbert says, "but a golf course seems a good idea, especially once events are available"

Jessecka says, "ooooo, golf events"

Filbert says, "golf will have a fully working course"

Catspaws will use Squeeks as a golf ball

Jessecka says, "that sounds fun"

Prometheus exclaims, "four!"

Stirling nods excitedly.

Jessecka winks, "even if I don't know how to play ;)"

Jessecka asks, "any more questions?"

Perseus raises hand

Jessecka asks, "Perseus?"

Perseus asks, "Filbert, I was wondering if you've ever seen Plantking's program back in GEnie Fed?"

Perseus says, "That was also a simulator"

Filbert asks, "no, did it run under windows?"

Perseus says, "It was a DOS program"

Perseus says, "which should run fine under Windows"

Filbert asks, "but it took text from the old workbench files, yes?"

Filbert says, "now planets have xml files describing the locations"

Perseus winks, "Yes it did, just like with my own planet ;)"

Jessecka asks, "ok, let's remember that it's late at night for Filbert over in the UK.....any more quick questions before we wrap this up?"

Caesar raises hand

Jessecka asks, "Caesar?"

Caesar asks, "are any of the events going to have java scripts?"

Gwarrior starts to say something, but decides against it.

Filbert says, "I think events will be created by making an xml file"

Filbert says, "but only Bella knows what events will be available"

Jessecka says, "Ok, let's wrap this up"

Prometheus asks, "are you gonna ask the good question jess?"

Jessecka says, "Filbert dear....you know what's coming.....tell us about your most embarrassing fed moment....in any version of Fed"

Filbert drawls, "well there are two....."

Jessecka winks, "mmm, goody, give us both ;)"

Jessecka giggles.

Prometheus smiles

Filbert exclaims, "the first was taking 6 months to become the uk's first duke, I am so bad at puzzle solving!"

Jessecka laughs.

Filbert says, "the other was when someone told me that Filbert was a nut, I thought it was a fancy paintbrush"

Jessecka laughs.

Robius chuckles

Jessecka asks, "you didn't know you named yourself after a nut??"

Jessecka giggles and giggles.

Filbert says, "no, but when I got over my embarrassment I thought it sounded ok"

Jessecka has bought you a large can of Filberts.

Filbert winks, "ahh, not more nuts ;)"

Jessecka smiles, "thank you Filbert for staying up late and being our guest tonight :)"

Jessecka has given Filbert a nice hug.

Filbert says, "your welcome, I have enjoyed the focus of attention"
