MEET AND GREET WITH FANCYWednesday December 12, 2008Meteu asks, "Shall we get started?" Fancy says, "OK" Meteu asks, "How are you tonight Fancy?" Fancy says, "I'm all right" Meteu asks, "What brought you here to Fed?" Meteu asks, "And How long ago?" Fancy says, "Well, I found Fed first on AOL, in 1996." Fancy says, "I started playing in December of that year, right as AOL had become unlimited use for a flat rate." Meteu says, "I bet that was good for all the loyal Fedders" Fancy says, "It was. I'm sure usage soared in response to that." Meteu asks, "And what drew you to Fed?" Toledo says, "except AOL then axed all the free games" Fancy says, "I saw a banner ad for Federation on AOL, and checked it out." Fancy says, "Before entering the game for the first time, I actually read the manual about it, and how to play." Arthurfrayn says, "my hero" Fancy says, "It looked interesting, so I went for it." Meteu smiles, "Now that we have that out of the way we start the fun part of my night:)" Meteu asks, "Whats the most embarassing way you have died?" Fancy says, "I would probably say when I stumbled across a death planet in the old version of Fed." Meteu asks, "A death planet?" Fancy says, "It was designed to trick players into moves that would kill them." Fancy says, "It used to be that to get onto a planet, you had to get into the orbit location, then land, then go out three times." Fancy says, "But that death planet had a location labelled link & orbit, but it was really only the link." Meteu asks, "How was it not against the rules?" Fancy says, "So when you tried typing land, you wouldn't land, and if you then started typing out, out, out, the moves would go to death locations." Fancy says, "It was soon after made against game management rules." Gandroid chuckles Meteu asks, "You'd exit the ship without actually landing?" Fancy says, "No, you wouldn't land, but you would then make an out move in space, to a space death location" Fancy says, "And then the location out from the hospital was also a death location." Fancy says, "So it was DESIGNED to kill players dead-dead." Fancy says, "Very nasty, as you can imagine." Meteu says, "thats a beatable offense in my book." Meteu asks, "What is it that you do on staff here?" Fancy says, "Here on staff, I host Fedpardy and the Fed Phrase Game on alternating Tuesday nights." Fancy says, "I also test some stuff out." Fancy says, "And in the early days when we were adding new solar system planets here, I tended to be the one with the sharpest eye in spotting typos so they could be corrected." Zardoz whispers to Arthurfrayn, "sheesh... I hope he doesn't visit mine." Meteu asks, "What has kept you on Fed after all these years?" Arthurfrayn asks, "shhhh quite you trying to get us kicked out?" Fancy says, "I did a LOT of proofreading with Sumatra, which Freya wrote in stages." Zardoz thinks a very good ISP. Fancy says, "She even put a little tribute to me on that moon. I think it's in the executive offices of one of the moon's agencies." Fancy says, "Their Heritage Foundation, I think." Fancy says, "With an orange-furred cat sleeping in the executive chair." Meteu asks, "Why is it that you play a cat?" Fancy says, "Well, I modelled my character after Fancy-Fancy, the cartoon Cat-sanova from the Top Cat cartoons." Arthurfrayn nudges Zardoz 'wake up you reprobate.' Zardoz was a fan of Snagglepuss. Fancy exclaims, "Heavens to Mergatroid!" Zardoz snorts and looks up. Zardoz grins. Meteu says, "Ahhh that cat:)\" Meteu says, "Did you always play a cat or was that new to Fed2" Fancy says, "I've always played a cat." Fancy winks, "Furry, fertile, and frisky. ;)" Meteu asks, "Do you share your catnip with Catspaws?" Arthurfrayn wonders if a trip to the vet is in order Fancy says, "We have shared catnip, all right." Fancy says, "In fact, in the old Fed, Catspaws and I were married for a while." Meteu asks, "Have you ever helped her track down Squeeky?" Fancy says, "Nah, Top Cat's gang aren't really mousers." Zardoz thinks Shared catnip?.... damn, I miss spybeams. Fancy winks, "She knew what it meant when I loosened the knot in my scarf. ;)" Zardoz chuckles Toledo shifts in his chair uncomfortably Fancy says, "However, a few months after marriage, she disappeared from Fed for several months, maybe even a couple years." Meteu asks, "What made you decide to name your planet the way you did?" Fancy says, "And when I fell into that death trap planet, the vow "until uninsured death do we part" got fulfilled." Fancy says, "Well, I was also a fan of the movie "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?", and came up with a story of Fancy-Fancy from Top Cat coming to lead Toontown." Meteu smiles, "Thats scary:)" Meteu asks, "Any questions for Fed's top cat?" Arthurfrayn says, "do youse have cheezeburgers? ;-)" Fancy winks, "I can get them at Roughhouse's on my planet. ;)" Meteu asks, "Any other questions?" Fancy says, "And he doesn't have to wait until Tuesday to be paid for a hamburger or cheeseburger today." Toledo says, "it was very nice to meet you Mr. Fancy" Arthurfrayn asks, "do you continualy come up with new info for fedpardy or do you now have a stock of materials to pull from?" Fancy says, "I try to come up with new material when I can, but I have written so many categories that I wonder what additional original material I could come up with." Arthurfrayn thinks he better start exploring with the full on Zardoz chuckles Meteu asks, "Do you do that by hand or do you use a generator?" Fancy says, "So I do have the archives to tap for inspiration, or a category when I need one." Fancy says, "I've done it all by hand." Arthurfrayn sees no hands on Fancy Fancy says, "Or more accurately, by copy & paste, and by hand." Zardoz nods. Zardoz says, "Or by paw." Zardoz asks, "What kind of software do you use to win Cryptograms?" Arthurfrayn coughs Fancy says, "Either electronic post-its or Word, with the search and replace." Zardoz takes notes. Meteu asks, "Any other questions?" Arthurfrayn says, "oh please Zar, first you got to know how to spell without any Z's" Zardoz says, "You can't." Arthurfrayn says, "when ate you gonna do a family feud games," Arthurfrayn says, "when are" Arthurfrayn says, "you got one family there :::: points to Zardoz:::::" Fancy says, "We actually did have a version of Family Feud for a while." Fancy says, "It was on Monday nights, and required at least 6 players, plus the host, to have a game." Arthurfrayn says, "seems lately that would be impossible (to get the players)" Zardoz hopes Arlene isn't the host like Richard Dawson... cuz he couldn't handle the wanton kissing. Meteu asks, "What got Cryptograms started?" Fancy says, "Catspaws came up with the idea one day, and thought it would be a popular game. She and I tested out the concept to see how long it would take me to decode groups of words." Meteu asks, "What other events have you seen hosted here that are gone?" Fancy says, "And from the testing I did with her, she figured out the format of the game she wanted, went to Hazed with the idea, and became the hostess." Fancy says, "Other former events I remember include Scavenger Hunt, Team Flag, Magellan Cup races, and of course the ship fighting events." Fancy says, "Also Hide and Seek, and Seek or Hide (where the winner of each round got the choice of seeking or hiding)." Zardoz suggested Death Race 2000 to Hazed, and sent in a spreadsheet describing it... but she denies receiving it. Meteu asks, "What was Magellans Cup like?" Arthurfrayn asks, "did you put FED2 in the subject?" Fancy says, "The Magellan Cup would have all the racers gather at a starting line (north of Titan landing pad in old Fed, on Magellan when we had it here briefly), and the host would broadcast a clue hinting at a planet and a location on the planet over the game channel." Zardoz put "Increase your planet size" in the subject line. Fancy says, "The racers would then seek out a "goalpost" (a character in the game with the mood indicating it was the goalpost), and would then receive the next clue there." Meteu asks, "That sounds like a fun event, was team Flag like capture the flag?" Arthurfrayn says, "sounds like fun" Meteu winks and says "Maybe it will make a comeback." Fancy says, "Team Flag had two mirror-image fields on a planet, and the players would split into teams. Each team's captain would then hide a flag for the other team to try to find in one of the arenas, and then the teams would race to find the hidden flag, bring it out, and give it to the host first." Meteu asks, "Any other questions?" Fancy says, "To finish the Magellan Cup, a racer had to find the goalposts in order, then return to the starting line, which doubled as the finish line." Meteu asks, "Any other questions for Fancy?" Arthurfrayn says, "nope" Zardoz is ok. Meteu says, "Well then, with that we'll call it a night. Thank you for agreeing to join us Fancy, and thank you for those that attended this late night edition of Meet and Greet." Toledo exclaims, "Thanks!" Fancy says, "'Twas a pleasure. Perhaps some of those old events may be revived for the pleasure of the players someday." Arthurfrayn looks at Zardoz, 'Late? what's he mean late?' Arthurfrayn says, "thanks Fancy" Zardoz chuckles Zardoz smiles, "early for me.:)" Meteu says, "Thank you everyone for attending." Zardoz was glad to see a convenient time. Arthurfrayn has bought you a saucer of warm milk with a sprig of catnip. Fancy smiles and purrs, lapping up the milk. Arthurfrayn nibbles on the catnip 'Whoaaaa what a rush!' |
