FED2TERM MANUAL - PLAYING FED2 WITH FED2TERM
LOGGING YOUR FED SESSION
It is always a good idea to record what happens to you in Fed so that you can review it later. This is known as logging or capturing. In Fed2Term there are several different ways to do this:
Copying Text From Fed2Term
You can copy sections of text from the main Fed window and paste it into a different program, using the usual Windows commands or the entries in the 'Edit' menu.
Saving the Buffer
You can use the 'Save Buffer' command in the 'File' menu, or the button on the toolbar, to save all the text currently in your output window buffer into a file on your disk. This is not just the text you can see on the screen, but also that which you can see if you scroll back. Fed2Term usually keeps the last 150-200 lines of text in its buffer, or 500 if you have selected the large buffer option.
Logging As You Go
You can record what happens during Fed by selecting the 'File' menu and clicking on the 'Open Log File' option, or clicking on the button on the toolbar. This records everything that appears in the output window to a file on your disk. If you open a log file that already has text in it, then the log will be added to the end of the old one. The file is ASCII text, so you can look at it in any word processor, or in Notepad/Wordpad.
Stop the logging by selecting the 'File' menu and clicking on the 'Close Log File' option, or clicking on the button on the toolbar.
Automatically Logging your Fed Sessions
If you find you keep forgetting to turn on your logging, Fed2Term has an option to automatically start logging every time you enter the game. You toggle this option on and off by selecting the 'File' menu and clicking on 'Log All Sessions'. This simply starts saving every time you log on, just as if you had started logging manually. You can stop the logging in the usual way, by selecting the 'File' menu and clicking on 'Close Log File'.
The session is saved to a new file each day, with the date as the file name. Subsequent sessions on the same day are added to the end of the file. All the auto-log files go into a sub-directory called 'logs'. If a session goes over midnight, the log will be in the file for the day when the session started.
Note that from time to time you will need to take a look at the files in this sub-directory and delete or archive old ones - otherwise they will start to take up a lot of space!
Warning: if you are in the habit of using more than one character at a time, then disable auto-logging. If you don't, you will end up with a log file containing a mish-mash of text - some from your first character, some from your second - which will be of no use at all.
