NAVCOMP - NAVIGATIONAL COMPUTER SOFTWARE MARK I

Developed by the Navy for its own ships, the Mark I NavComp software upgrade handles automatic route finding between the planets and asteroids of the Solar System.

The Mark I version of the software will only find routes between orbit locations, and then mainly for planets and asteroids that have exchanges, although it will sometimes work for other planets as well.

Most Navy spaceships have been converted to the Mark II version of the software which will route find from non-orbital locations; however, the Mark I version still remains classified for reasons which are unknown.

Despite this, a number of civilian ships do seem to have been fitted with the Mark I software, although it isn't known exactly where it came from.

There are persistent rumors that the Navy has developed a version of the software which works outside of the Solar System, but we have been unable to find any evidence that this is the case.
