FED PHRASE GAME
Tuesday July 11
by Fancy-Fancy
Three players joined me in Studio 1 for tonight's Phrase Game. Ondine, Kosmicfreeway, and Bluehorseshoe came to the studio. I went over the rules of the game for Kosmicfreeway, and once I verified that there were no outstanding questions, I had the players spin to determine the order in which they would play. Our newcomer Kosmicfreeway gained first in the order, followed by Ondine, then Bluehorseshoe. With turn order decided, it was time to play.
Our first puzzle was 6 word places (7, 3, 6, 2, 3, and 5 letters), and Kosmic began it. Kosmic started off by finding several consonants and building up 2250 points before picking a C not in the puzzle. Ondine found three L's for 150 each, only to be stopped by a Lose a Turn on her next spin. Bluehorseshoe took over and found three N's on his first spin. He missed with a Y on his next spin, though, turning the puzzle back over to Kosmic. Kosmic spun, but couldn't find any M's in the puzzle. Ondine got another shot at the puzzle and bought the E's, placed a couple of D's for 1000 each, and with several other consonants found and vowels bought, upped her score to 3000 before picking a K missing from the puzzle. Blue landed on a Free Spin, but couldn't get it with a B, which wasn't in the puzzle. Kosmic got the puzzle again, and after placing the remaining consonants, G and J, solved the puzzle - jungles and plains of the world - for 2900 points.
Ondine got to start our second puzzle, which was a 4 word thing (2, 5, 6, and 5 letters). Ondine found an S to start, but there was no T for her on the next spin. Blue took over and found the N's, L, R, and E's before missing with a D. Kosmic tried a P, but missed. Ondine got the puzzle back and added G, A, O, C, U, M, and H, leaving only a vowel unturned, at which point she solved - an Eames Lounge Chair - for 1950 points.
Our third puzzle was 4 word things (8, 9, 3, and 5 letters), and Blue got to start it. His first spin was a Lose a Turn, turning it over to Kosmic, who promptly missed with a T. Ondine promptly landed on a Lose a Turn, giving the puzzle back to Blue. Finally Blue found a couple of letters, 2 S's and an L for 700 each before a Bankrupt took his points and turn. Kosmic took over and picked up 2100 points with three R's. It bought the A's and placed an N before landing on a Lose a Turn. Ondine got the puzzle, and added D, I, and C before landing on another Lose a Turn. Blue landed on Free Spin and picked it up this time with the P's. He got some points after that with an H and Y, and bought the E's before calling a G missing from the puzzle. Blue decided to use his free spin there, and spun the wheel, only to land on a Lose a Turn. Kosmic got the puzzle again with 2150 points accumulated, and added 1000 more with an M, then another 150 with an F, and bought the O's. Kosmic decided to solve after that, and did - physical paperwork and forms - for 3050 points.
I offered one more puzzle to cap the game, and the players accepted, so our final puzzle tonight was a 6 word phrase (3, 5, 7, 4, 7, and 10 letters). Ondine started it off, and after placing 3 R's, 4 S's, 4 T's, 4 L's, an N, buying the E's, and adding 2 H's, she had 7100 points. She landed on 750 next, but called a B which was not in the puzzle, turning it over to Blue. Blue landed on 150, but there were no D's for him, and Kosmic got the puzzle. Kosmic added the P, K, and A's, followed by the F, W's, C, and Y. Kosmic then bought the I's and O's, leaving only one blank letter, and solved the puzzle - The walls sparkle with crystal formations - for another 2350 points.
That brought us to the end of tonight's game, and I added up the scores. The final totals were:
Kosmicfreeway: 8300
Ondine: 1950
Congratulations to Kosmicfreeway, tonight's big winner in the Fed Phrase Game! Ondine is this week's runner-up, and thanks to Bluehorseshoe for also playing tonight. Fed Phrase Game is taking a summer break, to return sometime in the fall.
