FED PHRASE GAME

Tuesday September 5
by Fancy-Fancy

The Fed Phrase Game returned from summer hiatus tonight, with three players in attendance. Genike, Ondine, and Furgas joined me in Studio 1 for tonight's game. I refreshed Ike on how the Phrase Game is played, and satisfied that everyone knew how to play, went about the business of determining the order our players would take turns. Furgas got first in the order, followed by Ondine, and then Genike.

Furgas started our first puzzle, which was a 6 word thing (3, 8, 5, 2, 7, and 5 letters). Furgas added letters to the puzzle, building up 3050 points before picking a B missing from the puzzle. Ondine took over the puzzle, building up 2350 points before landing on a Bankrupt. Genike got the puzzle and added most of the rest of the letters, including one for a free spin on the last letter, then solved the puzzle - the majestic sweep of Saturn's rings - for 550 points.

Furgas got to start our second puzzle as well, which was a 4 word place (8, 12, 4, and 7 letters). Furgas hit a Bankrupt on the very first spin, ending his turn before it began. Ondine got the puzzle, and went all the way with it, capping the puzzle with four C's for 1000 each, and a G to pick up a free spin right before solving - Galactic Consolidated News Service - for 5950 points.

Ike started the third puzzle of the night, a 3 word thing (8, 6, and 5 letters). He started off spinning 600, but there were no S's in the puzzle for him. He decided to hold onto his free spin, and the turn passed to Furgas. Furgas added H, B, D, A, T, F, R, and E, before deciding to solve, which he did successfully - battered office chair - for 2600 points.

Our fourth puzzle of the night was 6 word living things (5, 6, 8, 3, 2, and 2 letters). Ike thought he had an idea of several of the words right off the bat, though it turned out not quite as many as he initially thought. Ondine was the one who got to start the puzzle, and revealed, in order, the R's, N's, D's, S's (picking up a second Free Spin on that one), E's, T, and A's, then declaring she was stumped and passed the puzzle to Ike. Ike promptly filled in the rest of the consonants with two L's, a G, and a P, leaving only vowels, and solved - Lions, tigers, leopards and so on - for 1200 points.

Tonight's fifth and final puzzle was a 4 word thing (1, 10, 10, and 5 letters). Furgas got to start it, and promptly picked up a free spin with a T on his first spin. He followed that by finding 3 S's for 1000 points each, putting first place tantalizingly close for Furgas. He bought the A's, then landed on 400, but there were no H's for him. Furgas decided to use the free spin he picked up to continue his turn, only to land on Bankrupt with his next spin, wiping out his points as well as his turn. Ondine took over the puzzle, carrying over two free spins from prior rounds. Ondine promptly filled in N, G, M, I, K, R, C, O, and P, leaving only vowels, then solved - a skittering, scampering noise - for 4000 points.

That brought us to the conclusion of tonight's game. I added up the scores, and our final tally tonight was:

Ondine: 9950
Furgas: 2600
Genike: 1750

Congratulations to Ondine, the big winner in tonight's Fed Phrase Game! Join me again on September 19 for the next edition of the Fed Phrase Game, and on September 12, join me for Fedpardy. Both games are held at 10.00pm eastern.
