FED PHRASE GAME
Tuesday October 31
by Fancy-Fancy
Three players joined me in Studio 1 for tonight's Fed Phrase Game, using phrases from our Halloween puzzle planet of Graveyard, and the chance to win a treat. Genike, Mythic, and Emie came to play, while Oris joined us in the studio to watch, and Aniki joined the channel to watch. I went over the rules of the game for Mythic, a new player to the game, and answered questions about playing the game. Once those were all answered, I had the players spin to determine their playing order. Mythic ended up first in the order, followed by Genike, and then Emie.
Tonight's first puzzle was 4 word things (7, 9, 8, and 5 letters). Mythic started this puzzle and added letter after letter, picking up a free spin along the way, and amassed 5350 points before landing on a Lose a Turn. Mythic decided to use his free spin then and there, and promptly solved the puzzle - wrecked, abandoned, derelict ships - for 5350 points.
The puzzle for Round 2 was also 4 word things (3, 4, 8, and 4 letters), and Genike was up first for this puzzle. After finding a T to begin the first word, Ike tried H on the next spin, only to find there weren't any in the puzzle. Emie took over and placed an S, N, and W for 1000, 150, and 350 points, then two R's for 300 each before calling an L missing from the puzzle. Mythic took over and found two D's for 400 each, then bought the O's, of which there were four, and then the E's, of which there were none, turning the puzzle back over to Genike. Genike called a G, then bought the I, completing an "ing" ending, then completed the third word with a B. Ike spun again and placed the last two consonants of the puzzle, a pair of K's, leaving only vowels. Still unsure of the last word, Ike bought the A's, filling in the last two letters, then solved the puzzle - two dark, brooding oaks - for 2100 points.
Tonight's third puzzle was a 5 word phrase (7, 1, 5, 4, and 4 letters), which Emie got to start. After finding an S for 750, she landed on a Lose a Turn, and Mythic got the puzzle. Mythic found a T and pair of R's before missing with a D. Genike took over and added the N's, G's, and I's, at which point we had some interesting comments...
Fancy says, "_ _ _ r i n g _ _ _ _ i n g r _ _ s _ i t"
Genike winks, "LOL I hope the last word is what I want it to be ;)"
Oris says, "no words like that here"
Genike says, "I know Fancy to well though and he wouldn't do that"
Emie winks, "I don't think so, Gen ;)"
He continued by buying the E's and A's, which apparently helped him. He called the W next, followed by the P, L, and Y, leaving only a vowel. Genike then solved - wearing a plain grey suit - to win Round 3 for 2450 more points.
The puzzle for Round 4 was another 5 word phrase (2, 7, 10, 5, and 9 letters), and Emie again got to start it, with Mythic saying, "Come on Emie I know you can win." This time she found 7 N's for 750 points each right off the bat. Emie then bought the E's, then spun again and landed on 1000, and found 2 T's for 2000 more. Emie spun a few more times, adding a pair of S's, a C, pair of R's, and pair of L's. She then promptly solved this:
_n _nc_ent _r__est_ne le_ns _r_n_enl_
as:
An ancient gravestone leans drunkenly
to win Round 4 for 9650 points.
That brought us to our fifth and final puzzle tonight, a 10 word phrase (1, 5, 2, 3, 4, 3, 1, 4, 2, and 7 letters), and Mythic got to start it. He started by finding a pair of T's for 200 each, only to hit Bankrupt on the next spin. Genike landed on a Free Spin and called S, yet in all those letters there was not a single S. Emie got the puzzle and found two R's for 400 each, but then called an F missing from the puzzle on her next spin, turning the puzzle over to Mythic. Mythic found 6 N's for 350 each, then bought the A's. He found 3 H's for 150 each, and 2 D's for 1000 each. Had he been able to solve then and there, he would have tied Emie for overall score. As it went, though, Mythic bought the rest of the vowels - O's, E's, and I's - which filled in most of the remaining letters, enabling Mythic to solve - A torch in one hand and a book in another - for 3550 points.
That concluded tonight's game. I added up the scores, and the final totals were:
Emie: 9650
Mythic: 8900
Genike: 4550
Congratulations to Emie, the big winner in tonight's Fed Phrase Game. And tonight's treat for the winner was the prize of a slithy tove! Congratulations also to Mythic and Genike for their performances in solving a couple puzzles each. Join me again on November 14 at 10.00pm eastern for the next edition of the Fed Phrase Game. And on November 7, join me in Studio 1 starting at 10.00pm eastern for FEDPARDY!, where I give the answers, and you as the contestants supply the questions to them.
