FEDPARDY!

Tuesday July 3
by Fancy-Fancy, Mogul of Toontown

Three players joined me in Studio 1 for tonight's game of Fedpardy. Rapier, Doolittle, and Butters all came in. Additionally Payne and Grannyannie watched from afar on the channel. I went over the rules and how to play for our new players, and then it was time to reveal the night's categories. We had: Red, White, and Blue; Apple "Pi"; Fire; and Works. The players spun the wheel for the opportunity to make the initial selection, and that went to Butters. And I decided to put up a slithy tove as a prize for this week's winner. Butters selected Works for 5, and the game was on.

In what I am certain is a record, the very first selection of the game uncovered a Daily Double. Butters decided to make it worth the maximum, 5 points, and this was his answer:

The leisure commodity, after artifacts, for which a factory will put the greatest number of people to work.

His response of "What is Antimatter?" was incorrect, though, so it cost him 5. He selected Red, White, and Blue next, for 1, with both Doolittle and Butters missed. The same happened with the 2 pointer, except that Rapier also rang in and got it for the first positive points of the game. She selected Fire for 5, and along with Butters, responded incorrectly. Rapier next selected Red, White, and Blue for 4 and found the other Daily Double. She decided to bet 4 points, and this was the answer:

At the hyperspace link, you can see a pulsing circle in this color that indicates the link entry.

She responded, "What is white?", but the correct color here was blue, so it cost her 4. Fire for 3 was the next selection, and Doolittle got out of the hole by ringing in and getting it correct. He did the same with Apple "Pi" for 3, getting it after Butters responded incorrectly. Butters missed again on the 2-pointer, and Rapier got it right. After I told one of the players to remember the category, the light bulb went on for more than one of our players as to what that category was about. Doolittle selected Apple "Pi" for 5 next, and was the quickest one to ring in and get it for 5 points. He also beat Rapier to the buzzer for the 1 point answer to complete the Fedpardy round.

Doolittle led at the break with 9 points to -5 for Rapier and -18 for Butters. Butters got to select first in Double Fedpardy, and decided to finish off Apple "Pi" for 8 points. He also rang in and got it correct to narrow his deficit. He did the same with Red, White, and Blue for 6, and Works for 2 to get back to -2. Butters missed on the 4 pointer in Works, though, and Rapier picked up the points by getting it correct. Rapier selected Works for 8 next, and Doolittle got that one, then selected Fire for 2. All three players missed that one. With Fire for 4, Doolittle rang in first to get it. One answer remained in each of the remaining categories at that point, and Doolittle chose Works to finish off first for 6. Butters rang in to get that to once again get up to -2, and selected Red White and Blue for 10 to finish that category. Butters tried it, but missed, and no one else rang in. Ditto with Fire for 8. At the end of Double Fedpardy, Doolittle led with 19 points to -3 for Rapier, and -20 for Butters. Doolittle advanced to Final Fedpardy all by himself.

Doolittle decided his wager based on the category of Freedom and Independence, and after some last-minute instruction and his verification that he was ready, I presented him with tonight's Final Fedpardy answer:

This organization, once borderline illegal, has become almost respectable in recent years, and campaigns for Venusian Independence. Rumors abound that some of its members will do anything to advance their cause.

After time was up, we took a look at his response - "What is the Venus liberation Party?" So close, but it's the Venus FREEDOM Party that was described, so Doolittle's response was incorrect. His wager was 1 point, which left him with 18, and made him this week's Fedpardy champion.

Congratulations to Doolittle on winning this week's Fedpardy! I awarded him the slithy tove prize for winning this week. Thanks also to Rapier and Butters for also coming out to play tonight, and to our audience who tuned in. I hope you'll join us again next time, July 17, starting at 10.00pm eastern in Studio 1. And don't forget the Fed Phrase Game on July 10, also starting at 10.00pm eastern.
