FEDPARDY!

Tuesday January 29
by Fancy-Fancy, Mogul of Toontown

Three players came to Studio 1 to play tonight's edition of FEDPARDY! Angelfowl, Jythier, and Bubba showed up ready to play. I explained the rules for everyone, as we had a couple new players. After answering remaining questions on how to play, I revealed tonight's categories. They were: Where am I?, No L, No L, Move 16 tons... (and what do you get?), and GroundHog Days. Angelfowl gained the first selection by spinning the high number on the wheel for it, and selected Where am I? for 1 to start.

Bubba rang in on the first answer, but got it wrong to go in the hole by 1 point. Angel selected the 2 and 3 point answers, but nobody tried them. She then found the first Daily Double under the 4 point answer in Where am I? She decided to risk 2 points on it, and this was her answer:

A hodgepodge of small utility vehicles are parked here. Some are clearly marked with university sigils or corporate logos while others are drab standard skimmers, their surfaces dulled by a coating of rock dust.

She couldn't come up with any response, though, so it cost her 2. We finished the category with Bubba and Angelfowl both attempting the 5 point answer, but neither identifying the description of the Demo Room correctly, and we had three players resolved to explore the solar system more. Angelfowl started the GroundHog Days category next, but everybody got the 1 pointer wrong. Jythier finally provided a correct response to an answer to go on the plus side with 1, to -7 for Bubba and -8 for Angelfowl. Bubba pulled out of that hole a ways by getting the 3 and 5 pointers, though he missed the 4, and Angelfowl got it to herself come somewhat out of the hole. At the break, Jythier led with 1, to -3 for Bubba and -4 for Angelfowl.

Angelfowl got the first selection of Double Fedpardy as the one trailing, and all remaining answers doubled in value. She selected No L, No L, for what was now 2 points. Bubba rang in to get that one, and continued with the category, though for 10 points. Angelfowl rang in on "The lowest base price commodity without an L in its name," but responded, "What is Alloys?" (correct response was games). Bubba found the other Daily Double under the 8, and decided to risk 3 on it for the chance at the lead. His Daily Double answer in No L was:

All the solar system moons fitting the category.

He responded, "What is phobos and rhea?", but left out Titan and Sumatra, so he was wrong. But he got back to even by getting the 4 point answer. Our players passed on attempting the 6 in No L, and that left the Move 16 tons... category. Bubba got the 2 pointer to go on the plus side and take the lead. Nobody tried the 4, and Angelfowl attempted the 6, but got it wrong. Both the 8 and 10 point answers got passed, bringing us to the end of Double Fedpardy. Our scores were:

Bubba: 2
Jythier: 1
Angelfowl: -20

Bubba and Jythier advanced to Final Fedpardy, where they got to wager as many of their points as they each desired. Angelfowl finished in the negatives, so she would not be joining them, but I thanked her for playing. To help Bubba and Jythier decide their wagers, they were given the category of *Ships * for Final Fedpardy. Once both of them had placed their wagers, I explained how Final Fedpardy worked and gave some last-minute reminders, and both Bubba and Jythier verified they were ready, I revealed tonight's Final Fedpardy answer:

Rank has its privileges. In fact, Merchant rank is required before one can buy a ship of this class or higher.

When time was up, I started with Jythier, who wrote down, "What is Guardian?" That was correct. He wagered the point he had, temporarily putting him in a tie with Bubba for the lead.

Then we took a look at Bubba's response - "What are Guardian Ships". That was also correct. Any positive wager would give him this week's championship, and he did wager one point to take first place by himself with 3 points. Jythier was our runner-up with 2. Congratulations to both. Join us again on February 12, beginning at 10.00pm eastern for our next exciting edition of FEDPARDY! Also join me in Studio 1 on February 5 and every other Tuesday at 10.00pm eastern for the Fed Phrase Game.
