FED PHRASE GAME

Tuesday, July 8
by Fancy-Fancy, Technocrat of Toontown

Three players played tonight's edition of the Fed Phrase Game. Kalandra, Congene, and Transbabe all came to Studio 1 to take on the wheel and tonight's puzzles. I explained the rules and answered lingering questions, and then set the playing order, which went Kalandra, followed by Transbabe, followed by Congene.

Our first puzzle was a 4 word thing (4, 7, 4, and 4 letters), which Kalandra got to start. Kalandra tried an S with her first spin, but there weren't any. Transbabe spun next and tried a T, only to find there weren't any of those, either. Congene finally found a letter with two R's, a D, and bought the E's. His next choice of an M ended his turn. Kalandra found a couple L's, but no P. Transbabe found an N, but no G. Congene tried a C, only to be greeted by the buzzer again. Kalandra tried K. Buzz again. Finally Transbabe found more letters with a pair of B's, and an F, then tried to solve, but "full rainbow robe" was not correct. Congene got the puzzle back, and bought an O, of which there were two. He then placed a W, then bought the A, I, and U's, leaving only one letter uncovered. Unsure of what the remaining letter was, he spun and tried Q, but that was not it. Kalandra got the puzzle back, spun 200, and filled in the remaining blank with an H, and then solved it - full rainbow-hued robe - for 400 points.

Our second puzzle was 4 word things (4, 5, 7, and 6 letters), and Transbabe was up next to start it. She tried N to start, but there were none in the puzzle. Congene spun 700 on the wheel and found 4 S's for 2800 points. He bought the E's before spinning again and landing on Lose a Turn. Kalandra took over and found two T's for 600 each and an R for 1000 more. She then tried H, but that ended her turn. Transbabe found a pair of M's for 600 each. A missing P then ended her turn, and Congene got the puzzle back with 2550 points. Congene proceeded to buy the rest of the vowels, first A, then O, then the I's, and finally the U's, making the puzzle look like this:

some sta_e _is_uit _rum_s

Congene then spun, landed on 1000, and filled in two C's, boosing his total to 3550. He spun again, but this time the wheel stopped on Bankrupt. Kalandra took over, with 2200 points of her own, and added 600 more with a pair of B's, then solved - some stale biscuit crumbs - to win Round 2 for 2800 points.

Our third puzzle turned out to be the last one we had time for tonight. It was a 6 word phrase (6, 8, 4, 1, 5, and 4 letters), and we were back to Transbabe in the order to start it. She started by finding 4 N's for 500 each, followed by 4 T's for 450 each. She bought the A's, of which there were also four, then spun 400 and chose R. Only there weren't any R's, and Congene took over. He tried S, but there weren't any of those, either. Kalandra found a pair of L's, an M, bought the E's and I's, and found 3 G's before landing on Lose a Turn. Transbabe got the puzzle back, still with 3550 points, and added a Z for 350 more. Her next spin landed on Lose a Turn, though, and Congene got the puzzle. Congene spun and added the C for 350, and the Y for 200, leaving only a vowel in the puzzle, and solved it - gazing intently into a metal cage - for 550 points.

That brought us to the end of our hour, and I totalled up the scores. Congene grabbed second place overall with that final puzzle, while tonight's big winner with 3200 points was Kalandra. Congratulations to them both, and thanks to Kalandra, Congene, and Transbabe for coming out to play tonight. Our next Fed Phrase Game is on July 22, in Studio 1, beginning at 10.00pm eastern time. And join us in the same time and place on July 29 for FEDPARDY!, where I give the answers and you supply the questions.
