WE'RE ON THE MOVE

Federation 2 is moving! We're packing up the entire universe and hauling it to a new location.

Right now, we rent space on a computer in a data center in New Jersey for the game, website, email and other bits and pieces. But the credit crunch has made the dollar/pound exchange rate very unfavourable for people who need to transfer money from the UK to the US, and that's what we have to do every time we pay one of the monthly bills. So we're going to move everything to a different data center - one in Manchester, England - to save money and ensure we can keep Fed2 going.

Data pipelines across the Atlantic are much more reliable and faster now, so our American players shouldn't notice any lag - or no more than they do now, anyway!

The move is planned for the end of the month. We'll try to make things as seamless as possible, setting everything up on the new server before we pull the plug on the old one, but there will probably be a day after we take the final backups from the current computer, before we can throw open the doors of the new server - and during that time, we'll keep the current version running but nothing you do will be saved. We'll make a few changes for the occasion, like turning off death, so you can have a party on the sun or walk into transuranics.
