REAL LIFE NEWS: BOOB-POWER!by HazedUS scientists have come up with a novel way to generate electric power - from the movement of silicone implants as the body in which they are housed moves about. The new technology has been developed at Princeton University, where by modifying silicone the boffins have created a material which generates electricity when squeezed, mashed or wobbled. "Because the silicone is biocompatible, it is already used for cosmetic implants," the engineers said. "Natural body movements could power pacemakers, mobile phones and other electronic devices." Sounds intriguing. But there's more - the effect can work in reverse, so that if power is supplied to the silicone by an external source, the implants can be made to flex, bulge or oscillate. Well. I am sure you can imagine the fun you could have with that! |
