REAL LIFE NEWS: GIANT VULTURE NO LONGER A THREATby HazedIn the last issue of the Star, all those weeks ago, I told you about the huge vulture which had vanished during an exhibition in Scotland and had prompted warnings to aircraft. Good news: the skies are safe again, because Gandalf was found safe and well, without having destroyed any planes. She was spotted at a disused brickworks near Falkirk, perched on a telegraph pole, by a member of the public. Luckily the spotter was a vet, who had spent time in Africa and therefore recognized the bird as a Ruppell's Griffon Vulture who called the World of Wings center where she lived. She was retrieved and taken back home, unhurt by her adventures, although she had lost weight and appeared not to have slept during her time awol. So a happy ending all round. |
