REAL LIFE NEWS: MILES LONG PIPE JOURNEYby HazedA construction worker was sent on a wild underground journey after he was swept away by water in a sewer, traveling one and a half miles along a narrow pipe. He survived the experience but is in a critical condition in hospital. Daniel Collins was working in a sewer in Raymore, Missouri, when his safety line became unhooked. The force of the water pushed him along the two-foot wide pipe. The alarm was raised when his calls for help were heard, and the city was forced to shut down its water pumps. Rescuers used maps of the sewer system to search along the pipes, removing manhole covers as they went along, It took them 90 minutes to find him, curled up at the bottom of a 12-foot deep chamber. He is being treated for hypothermia and was given antibiotics in case he swallowed any sewage. Ewww! You can see pictures of the rescue here. |
