REAL LIFE NEWS: BEEKEEPER BEAR BOOBY TRAP BACKFIRES

John Frost, a resident of Loveland, Colorado, was admitted to hospital with a gunshot wound to his hand. A sheriff's deputy went to interview him and John told a story about the gun going off when he was cleaning it. His girlfriend, who had taken him to the hospital, backed him up. But something didn't sound right.

So Deputy Andrew Weber went to Frost's property to have a look at the scene of the accident. There, he found a suspicious-looking box with a short pipe protruding from it and a trip wire around a beehive. There was chicken wire around the box, and there were drops of blood on the ground.

It appeared that Frost had set up a "booby trap shotgun" that would fire when the trip wire was triggered. He had been trying to protect his honey from bears - but must have accidentally tripped the trap himself.

He's not going to be charged with any offensive, despite the trap counting as a prohibited weapon.
