VIDEO OF THE WEEK: HYPERION FLYBY
by Hazed
Hyperion is one of the stranger moons found in the Solar System. Its rotation is chaotic, meaning it wobbles around so much that it is impossible to predict its orientation in space ahead of time. It looks something like a sponge because it is covered with deep, sharp craters that nobody can quite explain.
The Cassini orbiter has been visiting many of Saturn's moons, and when it approached Hyperion it took lots of pictures. An enterprising blogger - Phil Plait of the Bad Astronomy website, which I thoroughly recommend - has stitched the pictures together into a video. Watch it here.
