REAL LIFE NEWS: DEATH BY TEXT

There was a recent news story about a girl who was walking through a mall, busy texting on her mobile phone, when she fell into a fountain. It was very funny - you can see the video taken from the security cameras here - although she wasn't so amused at the unwelcome publicity and is now suing the mall for... well, I'm not quite sure what for, actually.

Then a while back there was a story about a girl who fell down an open manhole while texting.

Now, things have got more serious, because an Australian teenager has died while texting because he wasn't watching where he walking. Ryan Robbins, 19 years old, fell from a multi-storey carpark and plunged to his death.

He had escorted a couple of women to their car, and after leaving them started to text a friend while walking. He didn't notice a waist-high railing, tripped over it, and fell out of the carpark.

Ouch! That's a real lesson in why you shouldn't get so absorbed in your texting that you don't pay attention to your surroundings. Sadly, teenagers are unlikely to pay any attention to the lesson.
