REAL LIFE NEWS: IT GRAD LOSES CASE OVER BAD DEGREE

by Hazed

A graduate from the University of Bradford in England has failed in his bid to get his degree upgraded.

Tony Chinedu Wogu gained a 2.2 degree in IT from the university, but was unhappy with this result. Rather than blaming himself for not working hard enough, he decided it must be the fault of the institution, so he went to court, claiming discrimination. He sought a better grade, and five million pounds in compensation.

Representing himself at the High Court, he claimed that he was not allowed to bring equipment into lessons but white students were. He also said lecturers were brought in from other departments and lacked relevant experience. He wanted the compensation because his low grade meant he'd been unable to get a job.

The university's barristers were having none of this, and said that Tony's case was incoherent and made no sense. The judge obviously agreed, and threw out the case, saying that the court had no power over academic decisions, nor the expertise to judge if they were correct or not.

This decision leaves Wogu with the bill for the university's legal fees - although if he has no job, I don't know how he's going to pay it!
