FROM THE POSTBAG: PINCHING A NEWSDROID

In last week's article about the Rigel display cabinet I said I was so surprised that:

"I had to pinch one of my newsdroids to make sure I wasn't imagining things."

Well, I wasn't going to pinch myself, was I? That would have hurt.

But the comment led to an enquiry from one of our readers, who wanted to know just how I could pinch a newsdroid, which is, after all, made of metal.

Well, I didn't use my delicate little fingers, of course. I might have broken a nail. No, I got another droid to do the pinching for me. Delegation is the key! Its metal digits were quite capable of acting like a strong pair of pincers, pinching hard enough to leave a mark on the newsdroid, to disturb its tactile sensors, and to make it go "Ow!" - thus proving that I wasn't dreaming.
