REAL LIFE NEWS: SATNAV ERROR SENDS OLD LADY ON TWO-DAY ROAD TRIP

It’s been a while since I told you about somebody whose blind obedience to a satnav sent them on the road to disaster. Normally the erroneous directions result in an abrupt stop as the car drives into a river or a lake, or gets stranded in a field or up a mountain.
This week, I found a tale of a granny from Belgium whose satnav sent her on a two-day road trip across Europe, ending up in Croatia!
67-year-old Sabine Moreau set off from her home in Solre-sur-Sombre to go the country’s capital, Brussels, 50 miles away. But the offending gadget directed her eastwards, and she says, “I was distracted, so just kept on driving. I saw all kinds of roadsigns, first in French, then in German and finally in Croatian.”
She travelled over 900 miles, had a minor accident, and took a couple of naps by the roadside, before she realised something wasn’t right. “Suddenly I was in Zagreb and then I realised I wasn’t in Belgium.”
Meanwhile Belgian police had been alerted to her disappearance by her son, and had begun to search for the missing granny. But she’d already left the country on her mammoth odyssey.
Frankly, I think anyone who is so distracted they can drive for two whole days before noticing they are in the wrong country probably shouldn’t be driving at all!
