REAL LIFE NEWS: NIGHT OWLS ARE SO MUCH BETTER THAN LARKS
by Hazed
Contrary to the stereotype of early risers being “healthy, wealthy and wise” and late night people being lazy, undisciplined and hedonistic, it turns out that the people who burn the midnight oil are generally more intelligent, and earn higher salaries, than the ones who spring out of bed at the crack of dawn.
This merely confirms what I have always thought. For I, dear reader, am a night owl. I’ve had to put up all my life with relatives and friends calling me lazy because I want to stay in bed late. Now I can show them this research and say “Ha!” in a loud, self-satisfied voice.
The study was carried out by the University of Madrid. Researchers quizzed 1,000 teenagers, looking at their habits and body clocks, and determined whether they liked to stay up late or rise early. They also examined their school performance and grades.
They found that night owls performed better than morning larks at inductive reasoning, and they also demonstrated a greater capacity to think conceptually and analytically. These are abilities that have been linked to the kinds of occupations that earn more money.
So there!
