REAL LIFE NEWS: FAME KILLS
by Hazed
“Fame, I want to live forever,” sang Irene Cara in the movie ‘Fame’. Sadly it looks like it ain’t gonna happen because new research shows that fame can shorten your life.
An analysis of obituaries in the US newspapers shows that performers and sports stars tend to die at a younger age than those who are successful in other careers.
The Australian researcher read through 1,000 New York Times obituaries between 2009 and 2011. These showed that famous people - actors, singers, musicians and those who make a career in sport - died at an average age of 77. Writers, composers and artists died on average at 79. Academics made it to 82 while those in business and politics hung on until 83.
This could point to something about being famous that leads to leading an unhealthy lifestyle.
Or maybe it’s as simple as the fact that famous people lie about their ages and pretend to be younger than they really are!
