NO FED2 STAR NEXT WEEK

I’ve been using the same newsdroids for many years. I no longer have to replace them regularly. Time was, one of them would do something to annoy me and I’d retaliate by turning it into a hatstand or a trashcan, but that just doesn’t happen these days. Either I’ve got better at keeping my temper, or the newsdroids have learned not to annoy me. You could see this as evolution in action, or survival of the... well, not the fittest, but the meekest perhaps.
The fact that all my faithful newsdroids have been on the job for ages is a good thing. They have accrued years of experience which means they are now able to churn out high quality news at the fast pace required in the busy journalistic galaxy.
But it has its drawbacks. They do require considerably more maintenance to keep them in tip-top condition. Some of them are getting very creaky; their sensors are growing dim and the joints seizing up for lack of oil. So they need more care and attention, more time in the workshop having bits lubricated, tightened and bolted back on.
Of course, I could scrap them all and replace them with shiny new models that didn’t keep breaking down, but think of the expense! Besides, they all know just how I like my drinks to be mixed, and I’d hate to have to train a new batch to understand my little foibles.
Eventually, though, I’ll have to send them to the droid rest home where they can see out their remaining days in peace and comfort. And not be turned into scrap metal, honest!
In the meantime, all of them need a visit to the droid mechanic, so there will be no Fed2 Star next weekend. We’ll be back on Sunday June 30.
