GPS was developed by the US military and then made available for civilian use. It’s now ubiquitous with most cars fitted with sat-nav devices which use GPS signals to guide drivers safely to their destinations (or occasionally into rivers).
But the technology has many more uses. It’s in your phone, it’s in sensors used to track animals, it’s even in golf balls! This article lists some of the ways GPS is used today. What would we do without it?
