REAL LIFE NEWS: PRANKING GOOGLE STREET VIEW
by Hazed
If you see one of Google’s Street View cars heading your way, of course you’re going to be tempted to do something silly. Most people content themselves with making an obscene gesture, or dropping their trousers to moon the passing vehicle, but one Scottish man and his employee got much more creative.
Unfortunately, their pranking ended up attracting the attention of the police!
Dan Thompson owns a garage on a street in Edinburgh. Back in August 2012 he spotted the Google car coming along the road, and because the road looped around the block he had time to set up a dramatic scene for the cameras to snap. He lay in the road while of his colleagues stood over him brandishing a pick axe handle. (You can see the pictures at the source link below.) Very amusing, and after the car passed they forgot all about their jolly jape.
Until a year later, when they were visited by the police. Someone had spotted the pictures on Google and alerted the constabulary to the evidence of a murder, so a representative of the law had come to investigate.
Dan explained that it had been a joke, and apologised for wasting police time. Fortunately, the policeman found the whole thing very amusing.
Still, top marks for creativity!
