From the department of “things that women always knew were true” comes a devastating new study which proves that men love to boast and tell lies.
Nearly three-quarters of men who were questioned confessed to boasting about their abilities, and almost half admitted to being skilled in areas which they actually weren’t adept at. One in ten said they boasted because they were trying to win respect from others.
So men boast about their skills, lie about their abilities, and tell fibs to cover up their deficiencies.
That’s not to say women never tell lies: they just don’t do it as much as men. 37% of women have misled others about their abilities, and 54% have boasted about their talents.
The study was conducted by Psychology professor Cary Cooper, of Lancaster University, England. He said that men are conditioned to be more competitive than women and feel a greater need to impress. “In the past, men were more likely to be the main breadwinners, with a need to boast to achieve success within the competitive male-dominated workplace.”
So next time a man tells you how wonderful he is, or how skilled he is at something, just remember – he’s probably lying.
