There’s a fascinating article on the Baen Books website about what it’s like to work in Mission Control for the space shuttles. As the author says, the astronauts get all the glory while the staff who run things on the ground are seen as boring.
The author describes the buildings, the machinery in them and the people who operate it. It makes for fascinating reading.
