Scientists have discovered a virus that makes you more stupid.
The algae virus infects human brains and has been found to affect cognitive functions, including visual processing and spatial awareness. It was spotted by scientists from John Hopkins Medical School and the University of Nebraska, who were undertaking a study into throat microbes when they found DNA in the throats of healthy people that matched that of a virus known to infect green algae.
The study involved 90 participants, and 40 of them tested positive for the algae virus. Those who had the virus performed worse on tests than those who were not infected. The tests were designed to measure the speed and accuracy of visual processing and attention span.
That’s scary. There’s plenty of stupidity out there already, so the idea of a plague making people more stupid is not good.
