BRIDE OF THE WEEK: MATHS SKILLS A REQUIREMENT
by Hazed
An Indian bride walked out of her own wedding ceremony when she discovered her groom couldn’t answer a simple maths question.
During the ceremony, the bride asked her intended to tell her the sum of six and fifteen. His answer was 17 and I hope you don’t need a calculator to check just how wrong this was.
Marriages in India are very commonly arranged by the families, with the bride and groom having very limited contact before the ceremony. In this case, the bride’s father complained that the groom’s family hadn’t told them about the poor chap’s inadequate education.
The groom’s family tried to persuade the bride to return, but she refused. Police had to be called in to sort out the return of the gifts which had been exchanged as a dowry before the wedding.
