REAL LIFE NEWS: POST YOUR MOUNTAIN SELFIE INSTANTLY
by Hazed
Mount Fuji is the highest mountain in Japan, so you would think that anyone ascending its peak would be cut off from civilization. But not for very much longer, because it’s about to get free wireless internet, meaning climbers can stay connected as they climb right to the very top.
The wi-fi hotspots are being installed at eight sites on the mountain, including the summit, and the new service was due to start a few days ago and run until September, to cater for tourists who want to use the internet while hiking up the mountain.
A local tourism official said: “We hope people will use the service not only to tell people abroad about the attractions of Mount Fuji, but also to obtain weather and other information to ensure their safety.”
Apparently this new service is being installed by popular demand: American and European tourists have been requesting a way to stay connected while climbing the mountain. I just hope they don’t spend all their time staring at their screens, instead of looking at the view.
