FEDTERM PROGRESS REPORT
by Hazed
When I questioned Alan about his progress with the new version of FedTerm a few days ago, it didn’t sound good.
“I’ve got 29 outstanding TODOs,” he said.
Wow, that sounds like a lot. But further probing about these outstanding items clarified things. Some are easy – but will have to wait till the last minute, like the version number. Some are work needed on the server. Others are to do with making sure failures are handled properly.
In fact, when I asked for an update just before publishing the Star on Sunday morning, the list was already down to 18.
It shouldn’t take long to fix the remaining items and then FedTerm will be ready for testing, by me and by any players that want to have a go. We will put it up on the website so you can install it and try it out. Of course there are going to be bugs; it is inevitable that you will try to do things that Alan didn’t think of. Programmers can never thoroughly test their own code because they can never imagine all the different ways players can use it.
If all goes well, we’ll have it ready for alpha testing next weekend, and I’ll be able to tell you all about it in the next issue of the Star.
