REAL LIFE NEWS: SEE, I TOLD YOU GOING TO THE PUB WAS GOOD FOR YOU!
by Hazed
A team from the University of Oxford in England has been down the pub. Not just to have a good time, but in the name of research. They have concluded that if you have a local hostelry at which you are a regular, you will be happier and have more friends.
The report was undertaken on behalf of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA). It looked at how people interacted in pubs in Oxford and found that those who frequented smaller local pubs rather than the big city establishments felt more connected to their community, and had a safe environment in which to socialise and meet new friends.
It’s not just about getting drunk, because people who visit a local pub on a regular basis don’t drink as much as those who don’t have a local.
The researchers also found that these happy people who go to their local pub regularly get ill less often. So that’s another reason to favour a local pub instead of those massive, soulless drinking dens.
Cheers!
