NEWSDROID TEAM MAKES ITS DEBUT
by Hazed
It’s all hustle and bustle in the Fed2 Star office, as my brand new team of newsdroids gets to grips with producing their first issue of the news.
There are three of them, and they have been custom-built with the new experimental morphing softskin casing, which means they can change their shape and appearance as required for the job. This is a new development which is still being tested and is not available to the general public yet – I had to pull a few strings to get my new droids included in the trials. When it goes public it’s going to be horrendously expensive, but I didn’t have to pay for it. In return I just have to send the droids back to the factory every few months for checks, and write regular reports on how their exteriors cope with the rigours of the job.
I have been supervising them carefully all week, and barring a few minor errors which I had to point out to them, their performance has been satisfactory. After a few more weeks I should be able to leave them to get on with things, only intervening when they run into problems.
The droids don’t have names, they have serial numbers which are far too long and unwieldly for me to use. Over time as they settle into their new lives they will decide for themselves what they want to be called, but for now, I am just calling them Thing1, Thing2 and Thing3 – which seems to work!
