REAL LIFE NEWS: PLANS FOR NEW HORIZONS’ NEXT RENDEZVOUS
by Hazed
Speaking of missions to get excited about, set your alarms for New Year’s Day 2019, because that’s when the New Horizons probe will be having its next close encounter.
Having skipped past Pluto and its moons, the probe is heading out towards the edges of the Solar System, into the Kuiper Belt. NASA has now sent it course information that will take it within 3,500km of an object called MU69.
At that distance, New Horizons will be able to spot features as small as 70 metres across. Wow – I can’t wait to see those photos!
