From 2019, you will be able to make mobile phone calls from the Moon. Very handy if you’re planning to go there, I’m sure.
Vodafone and Nokia have joined forces to provide the 4G access, which is intended to support the first privately funded Moon landing. The 4G network will connect two Audi Lunar Quattro rovers to a base station, which will be able to broadcast live HD video feed back to Earth via a deep space link.
The Moon mission is due to blast off from Cape Canaveral in 2019, launched on a SpaceX Falcon9 rocket.
Now if they could just sort out the duff 4G connection in parts of central London…
