FED2TERM MANUAL - PLAYING FED2 WITH FED2TERM

STORING TEXT ON F-KEYS

We do not support the use of macros in Federation; however, we have no objection to you saving yourself typing by sending commonly used commands at the touch of a key. Fed2Term lets you store up to 240 characters of text on each of the function keys (F1 to F12).

Select the 'Options' menu and click on 'F-Key Setup...', or click the button on the toolbar, to bring up the F-Keys box, where you type in, edit, remove and add to the text that you want to assign to the key. Use the 'Next' and 'Last' buttons to move between the different F-Keys. When you are done, you have a choice of what to do with the F-Key text you have typed: use it temporarily so it is discarded at the end of the session, or save the text permanently to use in future sessions.

For temporary use, simply press the 'OK' button to close the window. The text assigned to the keys will remain until you close down the program, then it will be discarded and the keys will revert to using the text which has been saved.

To save the text permanently, click the 'Save All' button before you close the window. The text will be stored in your Windows registry and will be loaded into the F-Key buffer when the program starts.

You can revert to the stored text at any time by pressing the 'Reset' button.

You can put more than one command on a key by putting each separate command on a new line. However, we do not advise that you put too many commands on a key - sending too many commands in one go can be dangerous, because if you make a mistake you cannot stop the game acting on all the commands sent.

Pressing the F-Key will send the text for that key to Federation - the equivalent of you typing it into your input window and pressing return.

Pressing Control and the F-Key will add the text for that key to your input window without sending the command to the game, so you can type extra characters before pressing return. However, this will not work properly if the key has more than one command on it; all the commands will go into the buffer and combine into one command which will probably have a peculiar effect!
