CRYPTOGRAMS

by Catspaws
Saturday, June 10

I woke from my catnap this week extremely hungry, so naturally, I headed to the Hotel Francois in Magellan for the perfect continental breakfast. With lots of cream in my coffee and croissant crumbs on my whiskers, I was ready for this week's games.

We had one of the largest crowds this week that we've ever had and they kept this kitty on her toes. See, Jess, I told you I was the bestest games hostess in Fed!

We had a special event this past week. Tuesday was 6-6-6. So to celebrate this frightening day, all but one of the puzzles this week involved 'six' in some manner. Starting off with six-letter player names, Fancy, Gwaptiva and Gradon solved the puzzle before the others.

PLAYER NAMES WITH SIX LETTERS (QW):
A M Q R W C
V M R R L I
N W J V B Q
C I W J U V
Y W L C W Q
W Q J L V L

From there, we moved to six-letter commodity names, which Gwaptiva, Gradon and Robius solved easily. We were starting to have fun at this point, as the players were finding the puzzles a pleasant challenge.

COMMODITY NAMES WITH SIX LETTERS (http://www.ibgames.net/fed2/guide/companies/inputs.html):
D T S B W J
D T X H C U
G H C T G U
J Z U W H U
U O D X N U
L H C E W U

The third puzzle concerned six-letter command names, and I was nice enough to give the link to the web site. Gwaptiva finished this puzzle first again, followed by Fancy and Gradon. I was really starting to think my Gwaptiva was going to win the game this week. My, how he has grown!

COMMANDS WITH SIX LETTERS (http://www.ibgames.net/fed2/commands/index.html):
X N W Z U Y
C U E G W Y
W Q H H U Y
E W W Y O X
O N W Z Q O
L R U U R P

Six-letter system names was the topic of the fourth puzzle, and I tried to omit some of the more obvious ones, though Gradon, Fancy and Robius eventually figured them out ahead of the other players.

SYSTEM NAMES WITH SIX LETTERS (DI SYSTEMS):
T V H F W P
F E F P D U
Q R V H Q F
Y G U L P V
K N L U G X
V O I Q H V

Going into our final puzzle, there was an air of excitement. Was Gwaptiva, the Cryptograms underdog, going to beat out the ever-knowledgeable Fancy? They were tied going into the puzzle, with Gradon a point behind. But, Robius, Violetsage and Magnusson solved this puzzle first, getting the extra points, leaving Fancy and Gwaptiva tied.

THINGS YOU MIGHT DO AT A BAR PARTY:
I J B / S T Z D W
S C D L J / F D / B A J / B C R X J M
M Y D I / X F Z S X O
G X Y T B / Q Y B A / B A J / R C T B J D S J T
M N J D S / B F F / P C D O / I T F C B M
N C M M / F Z B

I was tempted to leave the game as a tie, but decided to go with a tiebreaker. Bad choice - Fancy solved it first. As far as I'm concerned, Gwaptiva was a real winner. It was only a few short weeks ago that he had trouble solving any of the puzzles.

Tie Breaker: For Gwaptiva and Fancy only
