WORKER UNREST HITS SOL FACTORIESby HazedFollowing the introduction of restrictions on the siting of property on Sol planets last week, a series of wildcat strikes through the Solar System hit production in factories on many of the planets. Waves of unrest swept through the system as workers who had previously been employed in the factories and depots on agri and resource planets found themselves suddenly out of work. Many of their comrades on other planets came out on strike in sympathy which meant that the number of workers available for CEOs to employ was suddenly and unexpectedly lowered. The situation was particularly bad on leisure worlds such as Mercury, where a series of flying pickets set up outside the industrial areas to prevent any workers from getting into the factories meant there were no workthings at all! CEOs were forced to leave their factories idle or sell them and relocate outside Sol. The Galactic Administration's negotiators set up meetings with the disgruntled workers and over a meal of brown ale and sandwiches a deal was struck which saw an end to the strikes and the resumption of operations at the affected factories. Details of the settlement have been kept confidential, but it is to be hoped that the workthings are now satisfied, and that we can avoid more strikes which would lead to a winter of discontent! |
