REAL LIFE NEWS: ACROSS THE UNIVERSE GOES ACROSS THE UNIVERSEby HazedTomorrow is the 40th anniversary of the Beatles recording their song Across the Universe. It's also the 50th anniversary this week of the launch of Explorer 1, the first US satellite, which kickstarted the American space programme, and as if that isn't enough, the 45th birthday of its Deep Space Network, a network of antennas which support NASA's space missions. To celebrate all these birthdays, NASA is going to broadcast the Beatles song into deep space. The transmission is being directed towards the North Star, and will travel at 186,000 miles per second. The planet is 431 light years away. Lovely! |
