REAL LIFE NEWS: SPIDER KILLER CAUSES HOUSE FIREby HazedI know I've written before about people who come to grief trying to annihilate insects using extreme measures but I never tire of that kind of story, so here's another one, this time from the UK. A man in his 40s had to be rescued by firefighters after he set his house on fire, trying to kill a spider. The spider had been crawling up the front of his semi-detached property, so naturally enough, he did what any moron would do: he torched it with his cigarette lighter. But sparks reached material behind the cladding and caused a fire within the walls, just before midnight. Three fire engines raced to the scene and found the idiot trying to douse the flames with a garden hose. Firefighters spent two hours putting out the fire. The news report I read finished up with a lovely understatement from one of the firemen: "We obviously had a chat with the man but I don't think he'll be doing this again." No, but I'm sure he'll find something equally idiotic to do... |
