REAL LIFE NEWS: 92-YEAR-OLD REFUSED BOOZEby HazedAnother story about dumbness, this time the mindless application of rules even in situations where they make no sense. A 82-year-old great-grandmother was unable to buy a bottle of whisky from her local One Stop Shop - because she could not prove she was over 18. Diane Taylor from Harlow in Essex, England, had gone into a local shop to buy some booze, but she was asked for ID by the assistant. She showed her over-60s bus pass, her government-issued Old Age Pensioner card, and a certificate for her pacemaker - but none of those would do. The assistant insisted that only a passport or driving licence would be sufficient proof. Diane ended up storming out of the shop in indignation, without the whisky. A spokesman for One Stop Shop said the store had to enforce a strict ‘no ID, no sale' policy or they would risk losing their licence. |
