REAL LIFE NEWS: MODERN MUSIC IS RUBBISH
by Hazed
My dad used to complain when I played pop music loudly. “It’s too loud, and it all sounds the same,” he’d grumble. He was wrong, of course, since I was listening to David Bowie, Queen and Kate Bush who all had very varied repertoires (well, perhaps not Kate Bush, since there’s only so many different ways she could scream like a banshee that had sat on some barbed wire).
So now I am middle-aged and it’s my turn to moan that the music that youngsters listen to these days is too loud, and all sounds the same.
But I am right.
Scientists have proved it.
They have analysed songs produced between 1955 and 2010 and discovered that pop songs have become “intrinsically louder” and what’s more they rely more on the same chords, melodies and sound palettes.
So there!
Now excuse me while I turn up my Led Zeppelin CD...
