BUG FIX UPDATE
by Hazed
Previously in Fed DataSpace: Bella proved that the frequent crashes the game had been suffering were caused by two players setting up new accounts simultaneously. She scrutinised her code but couldn’t see where the problem was with that bit of the program, so she decided she’d have to rewrite the new account routines from scratch.
Meanwhile, to prevent further crashes, she took drastic measures and blocked any new accounts from being set up.
Now read on...
Alan has spent the past week working on this code rewrite. Unfortunately he has run into a problem: he cannot actually see how to rewrite the code without just duplicating the way it’s written already. In other words, There Is No Alternative.
So he’s going to change his approach and instead of rewriting the code so it doesn’t fall down in a faint if two people try to set up a new account at the same time, he’s going to figure out a way to throw up a roadblock if somebody starts to set up a new account, when someone else is already partway through.
This means, use of the new account routines will operate like a busy nightclub: one out, one in. With any luck the delay won’t be too long.
I will, as always, keep you posted. So tune in next time for the continuing safa of the Fed DataSpace bug fix!
