REAL LIFE NEWS: HOW SECURE IS YOUR PIN?
by Hazed
What’s your PIN? Wait... don’t tell me... let me guess...
According to a new report, it’s quite likely to be something very easy to guess. Like 1234. 11% of people use that; it’s the most popular. Second most popular, at 6%, is 1111.
These facts come from a security researcher who analysed the PINs from exposed data and security breaches. He found that people display a staggering lack of imagination, and security consciousness, when selecting the 4-digit PINs.
Maybe you’ve not gone for something quite that obvious. Perhaps it’s your birthday - the month and day, or the year. But hang on... if you lose your wallet, it probably contains your driver’s license, which has your birth date on it! Not very secure after all.
If you want to be totally secure, try the least-used PIN - 8068. Except that now the number has been publicised, anyone who wants to use your card may try that one too. Oh dear...
