There are a lot of old people in Japan, and in an attempt to help combat loneliness and even dementia, there’s been a surge in sales of talking dolls that can recognize words and respond accordingly. Some of the dolls sing, as well as talking.
One executive of a company that manufactures the dolls thinks people are buying the dolls for their elderly relatives that they don’t have the time to visit.
