REAL LIFE NEWS: CRIME DRAMAS ARE GOOD FOR THE BRAIN
by Hazed
Don’t feel guilty if you spend your free time watching crime dramas on TV. It turns out it’s good for you.
The human brain needs to be kept active in order to stay healthy, and the dramas that are full of suspense and surprises give you the required taxing mental workout.
Dr Amanda Ellison writes in the Daily Telegraph that dramas that build suspense over a number of episodes are particularly good at keeping the brain fit because they challenge viewers to keep track of the details, to pay attention to complicated plots and remember them from episode to episode, and to sort out significant facts from red herrings.
This mental stimulation keeps the brain healthy. It also increases your ability to undertake reasoning and memory tests, because the brain becomes sharper.
So good news all round, for viewers and for TV producers.
