Valentine’s Day came and went while the Star was having a week off, but if you haven’t yet found love you may be interested in this information. New research shows that when setting up an online dating profile, choosing the right screen name could be the key.
No matter how gorgeous your picture, or how interesting your profile, it won’t do you any good if nobody gets to see it, so choosing a playful name that starts with a letter near the alphabet may lead to success.
The research, by Professor Khalid Khan from Queen Mary University London, looked at how men and women could improve their chances of getting a meet-up when online dating. The team looked at the results of more than 80 studies on the art of attraction and persuasion.
They found that choosing a good screen name was vital. Names with negative connotations such as Little and Bugg are a turn-off, because they are often linked with inferiority. Names that sound playful, such as Fun2bwith, are more attractive.
Men should choose names that indicate intelligence, like Cultured, whereas women will get a good response with names indicating their physical attractiveness, such as Blondie or Cutie. (Yes, men are that shallow!)
Equally important was making sure the name was seen, by being near the top of the list – that is, starting with a letter close to the start of the alphabet.
