SMART CRIMINALS OF THE WEEK: PRISON ESCAPE USING PEANUT BUTTER!
by Hazed
Twelve prisoners went on the lam from a prison in Alabama after they used peanut butter to aid their escape.
How do you use peanut butter to escape from prison, I hear you ask? Well, you use it to trick a guard into unlocking a door for you.
The inmates smeared peanut butter over the number on a cell door to partially conceal it, making it look like a different number – that was actually the number of an exit door. Then they took advantage of a new guard who hadn’t learned his way around the facility, who was monitoring all the doors from a control room. They asked him to open the door so they could get back into their cell, and he opened the door that matched what the number now looked like. This unlocked the exterior door.
This let the prisoners exit the building. They then used their prison uniforms and a blanket to get over a razor wire fence.
Very cunning!
It didn’t do them any good in the long run, though. Eleven of the escapees were captured and returned to jail within 12 hours. The final one stayed free for several days before being captured in Florida.
Local sheriff James Underwood said that the county prison is now looking at ways of changing the door numbers “in a way that peanut butter won’t have any effect on them.”
But he didn’t answer the question we all want answered: was it crunchy or smooth?
